Character Info
Name: Galen Marek, but throughout the game, he’s called Starkiller
Age: Unknown, estimated to be early to mid twenties
Canon: Star Wars Expanded Universe
Canon Point: When he drops off his ship and infiltrates the Death Star
Personality: Having been raised by Darth Vader himself as his disciple, Galen spent most of his life being encouraged to give in to every shred of hatred and anger that he could muster. Throughout his life, his only friend was a robot designed to train him in the art of fighting, one that was programed to kill him no less. As such, Galen’s personality started out as one of an aggressive, ruthless man, that wouldn’t hesitate to strike down anyone and anything that stood in his path. Apathy and distance were to be expected of him when dealing with relations with humans, with things like the fact that most of his pilots were killed either in duty or by Darth Vader, his master, being mentioned with nothing but a curt remark on how sick he is of training new pilots. Kindness and other forms of affection are foreign to him, having never been shown during his upbringing, and thus likely to earn more confusion out him than anything else. He grew up reclusive, very much believing that anything that didn’t kill him would make him stronger, likely to willingly seek out or submit to extreme training regimens that could potentially kill him (supplementary material to the game tells an episode where he spent an extended period of time in isolation, refusing any nourishment until he managed to assemble his lightsaber via telekinesis).

He is also, however, fiercely loyal, although to who is something that torments him in canon. As he’s not irredeemable despite his dark upbringing (I am, in fact, bringing him from a point very soon after he truly begins his redemption), his personality when he enters New York would have been undergoing a slow but dramatic change, largely due to his relationship with his pilot Juno. His love for her was often described in canon as a bright spot in the midst of dark thoughts in his psyche. This ended up opening him up to concepts such as compassion shown in subtle ways through the game. Specifically, how he reaches out for a woman he was sent to kill when she commits suicide and doubting all the collateral he’d done until then was really necessary; as well as in a more overt way, when he mentions a creature’s suffering during a mission in a pained, empathetic tone, and agrees to try and decrease its pain at Juno’s request. He also shows some pity for Darth Vader himself, remarking that Vader hates being himself, and at a certain point in the game telling him that he’d never be free from his own master.

Galen, as mentioned above, has a fierce sense of loyalty, one that ultimately proves incompatible with the life philosophy he was raised in, and as such, at the point in canon he’s being brought in, he has made his choice accordingly. As such, while he’s by no means completely free from the shackles of his dark upbringing, he’s developed a sense of compassion, friendship and even love, that have allowed him to make long strides away from his upbringing. Reigning in his anger and upbringing is still a proving task for him, one that he can still ultimately fail in, but he’s on the way. Something that stays constant through the whole game as far as his personality goes, though, is his sarcasm, with him bring prone to occasional deadpan comments, sometimes to relatively chilling effect, as how he casually accepts that his robot friend will probably try to kill him for the rest of his life.

Background: Galen was born on Kashyyyk, the son of two Jedis that survived The Great Jedi Purge, an event that lead to the death of what was thought to be all Jedi. As a child, he knew the death of both his parents, his mother having died first, defending her family from slavers. His father died later, when Darth Vader discovered them and fought his father himself. Upon finding out about Galen’s existence, affinity with the force, and feeling his desire for vengeance for his father’s death, Vader took him as his apprentice.

Upon becoming Vader’s apprentice, Galen soon forgot his life with his parents and was given a new name: Starkiller. He was given a lightsaber training droid named PROXY, who was capable of taking the shape of anyone in his database, as well as adopting his mannerisms and battle styles. He was also programmed to fight Starkiller with intent to kill, and would express disappointment at his failure to do so throughout Galen’s life.

Galen eventually took the role of Darth Vader’s personal enforcer and assassin, killing problematic individuals throughout the empire and military. To this end, he was assigned a custom made ship, the Rogue Shadow, and an imperial officer to serve as a pilot. There was a high turnover of such individuals, as throughout the time it took him to finish his training, Galen had seven pilots, all either in action or by Darth Vader himself.

Once his training was complete, and Vader officially recognized Galen was his apprentice, he was given another mission: kill the surviving Jedi Master Rahm Kota, who was attacking an imperial shipyard. He was to leave no witnesses. It was on the way to this mission that he met his new pilot, a young officer by the name of Juno Eclipse. Galen was immediately stricken by her, stopping PROXY from going to the ship to ask him who she was. She was his eighth, and first female pilot.

Once in the target shipyard, Galen charged through, killing both Imperial soldiers and Kota’s men alike, and eventually, he met with Kota. The two faced off in a battle that damaged the very structure of the shipyard, finishing with Kota being severely wounded in the eyes and thrown off the ship, Galen taking his lightsaber as proof of his task being finished. This came about when while their lightsabers clashed, Kota had a vision of Galen’s future, with which he tried to break Galen’s concentration. However this backfired. In this vision, Kota saw that Darth Vader wasn’t Galen’s future; however he saw that he would play a large role in Galen’s life in the time to come, which broke his concentration and allowed Galen to finish the battle off.

Once Kota’s lightsaber was presented to Darth Vader, Galen was sent to the Jedi Temple in order to further develop his skills. In there, he had a vision of sorts, where his father’s voice told him he’d need all his skills to survive the upcoming test. While sorting through this development, he’s attacked by an simulacrum of an ancient Sith Lord. Once the simulacrum was defeated, PROXY broadcast a message from Darth Vader.

Darth Vader then tells Galen that another Jedi had been discovered, in the junkyard planet of Raxus Prime. He told Galen he was not expected to survive, but if he did, he and Vader would be closer to their primary objective: the Emperor.

After a long journey, Galen, Juno and Proxy reached the planet. After landing as close as possible to the target, Galen made his way through the piles of destroyed droids and ships. Throughout his way he fought off scavengers and rogue droids. Eventually he found his target: a Jedi named Kazdan Paratus. During their battle, more droids, built by Kazdan, activated and along with Kazdan himself attacked Galen. Eventually the battle was won, and Galen prepared to return to Vader.

But once again, Vader sent him to the Jedi Temple. And one more time, he heard his father’s voice, telling not to be blinded by anger. Once again, he was attacked by a simulacrum, one made to test his response to fear. However, he once again prevailed, and defeated the simulacrum.

Vader then sent him to the jungle planet Felucia to kill the legendary Jedi Master Shaak Ti. Once there, Galen blasted into the jungle, where he was quickly engaged by the natives of the planet, a force-sensitive people that had been trained by Shaak Ti. Galen made quick work of them and eventually found Shaak Ti, sitting on the gums of a giant monster buried on the floor, only his mouth and tentacles left out. Shaak Ti was untouched by either the tentacles or the flexing teeth. Shaak Ti dubbed Vader a coward for sending Galen, and the two engaged in battle. Galen eventually gained the full advantage, prevailing even when Shaak Ti controlled the creature and ordered it to attack him. Eventually, Galen hit her with a strong blast of lightning. She regained her footing, but she knew she was dying. As she expire, she dubbed Galen nothing but Darth Vader’s slave, and warned him that the way of the Sith always ended in betrayal.

Then she jumped into the pit of the creature and died.

Galen then contacted Vader, who assessed that Galen was ready to assist him in taking down the Emperor, and was ordered to return. Once the two met in Vader’s ship, Galen noted that the Emperor’s fleet was there too, assuming it to be part of Vader’s plan. Vader informed him that the Emperor’s presence was actually due to his spies following Galen, and then stabbed him through the abdomen with his lightsaber. The Emperor joined them through a communication via PROXY, saying that Vader taking Galen as an apprentice had been an act of treason, and that he had forgotten his place. Vader was ordered to kill Galen, which he did after a moment of hesitation, during which Galen pleaded for his life.

However, this was not the end for Galen. He was sucked into the voice of space through a broken window, and retrieved by a droid, who took him to another shit, where he was healed and revived. He woke restrained to a laboratory table, Vader informed him that his execution had been forced into Vader by the Emperor’s orders, but they could still go and fight against the Emperor. If Galen refused to cooperate, the laboratory would self-destruct, leading to Galen begrudgingly accepting Vader’s offer. First, Galen would have to create a distraction to divert the Emperor’s spies away from him. Said distraction would be an army of rebels and dissidents. An army large and powerful enough to lure the Emperor’s attention for long enough that they could both attack him. Vader left how to achieve such power up to Galen, but he demanded that Galen cut all ties to his past except PROXY, so nobody would know he had served under him. After a final assurance that the Dark Side was always with him, Vader cut off transmission, revealing that he had been there via PROXY’s transmission.

Proxy then hacked into the ship’s systems and set a collision course towards a nearby star, so as to follow Vader’s orders thoroughly and leave no witnesses. However, Galen got sidetracked once he learned that Juno was alive and in the ship, making his way to rescuing her instead of going straight to his ship so he could escape. Once he found Juno, he assured her that he was leaving the empire behind, keeping her in the dark about his continued alliance with Vader. Once they were at a safe distance of the ship and of the Empire, Galen told Juno the rest of what he intended to do. Since Galen would also need a teacher to teach other aspects of the force Vader hadn’t touched, they resolve to look for General Kota, sure of his survival of his duel against Galen.

Eventually, they intercept an Imperial communication that detailed Kota’s location, Galen ran into him in a bar, drunk and depressed and not at all willing to join Galen. Their chat didn’t last long though, as Imperial forces attacked them, making them fight their way to Galen’s ship. Once safe, Galen appealed to Kota’s sense of honor, convincing Kota to join him. Kota said he had a contact that could help them and use his lightsaber.

***Once more, with feeling: DLC content***
However, Galen began feeling himself drawn to the Jedi Temple, so the group headed there once again. Galen’s trekking through the temple lead him to the old chamber of the Jedi council, where he saw a Jedi in battle with Darth Vader, and winning. Unknown to Galen, the Jedi was his father. Seeing his Master in trouble, Galen leapt to assist him, countering the Jedi’s attempts to dissuade him from fighting and to continuing following the Dark Side by saying the Dark Side is all he has.

Eventually, the Jedi was defeated, apologising to Galen before vanishing, leading to Galen realizing that he had just struck down a vision of his father. Feeling the need to look for information on him, he kept exploring the temple, eventually finding an archive. In it, was a message from his father, telling him that his fate was his own and that he had to complete another trial, once and for all. Galen had another vision, where he was attacked by a helmed figure. During the battle, Galen managed to remove its helm, revealing their face: it was himself, disfigured and twisted by the deep immersion in the Dark Side. The battle continued, and eventually, Galen was able to defeat the vision, only to find that his hand had taken a clawed shape, similar to the vision’s own hand, indicating that he could never fully escape the Dark Side.

Kota’s contact had them go to Kashyyyk, with the promise that if they retrieved what he wanted from there, he’d provide further help. Galen infiltrated an Imperial skyhook in construction, where the item to be retrieved was, eventually learning of the presence of a guest at the base. Eventually, he was lead to what turned out to be the guest quarters, where Princess Leia Organa was being held. Galen then realized that the item wasn’t an item at all: Kota’s contact was Leia’s father, and he had intended for him to rescue Leia. Once Leia was convinced that he was not an assassin sent by Darth Vader, she asked Galen to destroy the skyhook, leaving her escape to herself now that he had cleared a path.

On his way to the skyhook, he found an abandoned hut, emanating a great darkness in the force. Galen entered the hut despite Kota’s warnings, and was faced with more visions:

***One more time, this is DLC content***
his father’s murder, his own kidnapping and finally, a contest within himself, a brutal battle between a Jedi version of himself, and a Sith version of him. Ultimately, the Sith won, leaving Galen back at the hut.

Galen had a vision of his father, who apologized for all that had happened in his life, and called him his birth name, long forgotten: Galen.

Despite being shocked to the core by this, he went on with his mission, successfully destroying the skyhook. Once back at the ship, he confronted Kota about his vagueness about the mission. Kota came clean, almost making Galen reveal that he was the man that had blinded Kota in the process by making a reference to how Senator Organa, Leia’s father, was searching for Shaak Ti in Felucia.

The group made their way to Senator Organa’s ship, Juno spoke privately to Galen about her worries that they could not keep their past alliances hidden for long. Galen tried, and failed to reassure her before he took off looking for the Senator, who was missing. Eventually he found the Senator and informed him of who he was, and that he had Kota as an ally. Before they could escape, Shaak Ti’s former apprentice, who had meanwhile fallen to the darkside, attacked them. Eventually, Galen beat her to submission, making her surrender and beg for her life. Galen was convinced to spare her, feeling that her guilty conscience would keep her on the right track.

Upon meeting with Kota, Galen asked for time to think of a target that could show the vulnerability of the government. In reality, he contacted Vader, who gave him such a target: a massive shipyard, where a lot of the emperor’s fleet was built. Vader also reprimanded Galen for his growing affection towards his allies. Juno turned out to have been watching the whole time, and confronted Galen about his continued loyalty to Vader. In the end, she chose to stay, believing Galen, not Vader, would decide the fate of the Galaxy.

A plan to destroy the shipyard was devised, requiring a trip to Raxus Prime, where a giant cannon was located that would serve their purpose. Galen headed through the planet, cutting through every Imperial soldier he ran into, only for PROXY to interrupt him, thinking that to be the best moment to kill Galen and fulfill his original programing. Galen defeated him quickly though, and made his way further into the planet. Once the cannon was fired, a problem revealed itself: one of the ships survived and was pummeling down to the planet. Galen managed to direct it elsewhere with the Force though, surviving the devastation. In the rubble, he found PROXY, damaged, and woeing the loss of his primary programing to kill Galen.

With the shipyard destroyed, a meeting with a firebrand in the galactic senate was arranged, with the intent of arranging an alliance. However, once they made it to the city where they were supposed to meet, they found it overrun with criminals. Galen cut through them, encouraged by Kota thinking this to be a good way to prove his worth to the senator.

Galen eventually learned that the senator had been kidnapped by a bounty hunter. By the time Galen found the bounty hunter, the senator had already been handed over to the contractor. Galen then made his way to the head of the criminals, eventually finding him and senator. Galen was able to defeat the head, rescuing the senator and earning his promise that he’d aid the Rebel Alliance.

Meetings in Coruscant were arranged, with the intention of ironing out the issues of this alliance. Galen contacted Vader, putting him up to speed on everything, and getting instructions to contact Vader soon before cutting the link to the Alliance.

Another meeting in Corellia was arranged, where Galen was present. As soon as it was concluded, stormtroopers and Darth Vader marched in, ordering for everyone’s arrest so the emperor could personally execute them. Vader revealed that he had been lying about the mission, and indeed from the very beginning of Galen’s apprenticeship, never intending to challenge the Emperor. Vader threw Galen off the cliff, where he managed to cling to the edge before a quick battle between Vader and Proxy in Obi-Wan’s shape made him slip and fall into the snow. Weak, and unconscious, Galen laid there until Juno, who had escaped the imperials, found him.

Once awake, Galen rejected his codename of Starkiller, and reclaimed his birth name. He also began considering himself a Jedi. After successfully provoking a vision that nearly overwhelmed with the plethora of possible futures, Galen discovered the location of the Senators and of Darth Vader and the Emperor: a giant incomplete station, the Death Star. Choosing to free the Senators and confront Darth Vader, he and Juno headed to the Death Start to infiltrate. After a goodbye where Galen said he’d probably never see Juno again, to which she replied with a kiss, Galen jumped in, ready to right his wrongs.

Abilities: He is a skilled swordsman, favoring lightsabers, and can use the Force, which allows him to use a form telekinesis and do things such as shoot lightning out of his hands.

Like said before, Galen's force allows him to use a form of telekinesis. While his range is relatively limited, at least not without some strain on his part, it's incredibly powerful. He's able to pick people up and throw them around like rag dolls, grab a small spaceship mid-flight and throw it just as easily. He can also use the force to push things in his path. While this is the most limited in range and power, he can charge it to the point where the impact alone will kill someone, let alone once they hit, say, a wall. He can also use it on a 360º degrees range, although the charging process can leave him vulnerable.
Finally, he can use it to double his jumping height.

His lightening isn't as immediately powerful, but the electrocution as a strong effect on both man and machine, stunning for a few precious seconds that can be enough for him to deliver the final blow, assuming he just doesn't electrocute his target to death.

It's also implied that he can use his powers to read people's thoughts, although we never see him doing any mind control. However, his clone in the second game (post the canon point I'm taking him from, obviously) can temporary alter his enemy's minds, to get them to either attack their allies, or commit suicide. Therefore, I think we can assume he's capable of doing it as well, albeit it's not something he does often, as most of assignments had killing as its final goal.
Inventory: The clothes on his back, his lightsaber, and a communicator (precise size and location in his clothes unknown, but it’s small in size, and most likely cylindrical in shape)
Which PIC?: Masters’ PIC

Sample Network Entry:

I don’t know this planet. It seems to be mostly populated by humans, but the technology is far behind what I’m used to. Nobody seems to be hostile, just frustratingly uncooperative. And not intimidated by lightsabers despite being unarmed...

Either way, assuming I was told the truth about this device, I need someone to tell me about this place, and how could I leave. I don’t have time to waste on someone else’s agenda.

… Does this planet even have space ready ships?

Sample Prose Entry:

The technology of the place he was in was... Weird. He could tell it wasn’t completely dissimilar to the one he was used to, but on the other hand, it was so... Behind. It was frustrating really. He was able to adapt reasonably well, but there were still times when he’d struggle with some device, like connections suddenly dropping or not some areas not having signal at all. It was only stranger when coupled with the fact that the PIC he had been given upon entrance was perfectly functional at all times, in all places. The disparity was suspicious. But by far, the most frustrating part were the vehicles. So slow, and cramped, and so... Uncomfortable. Was he really supposed to lose his balance when a vehicle was slow as the subway started? And of course, the worst of them all: none of them could take him back to where he was needed. He’d started to go with what he was told, that he’d be able to go back to his world at the right time, but he wasn’t sure that was possible. Then again, he’d been transported into a completely different world, his powers had been depleted significantly, and he was now living in a world centuries behind his, having a life he never thought he’d live. He couldn’t really go by what he thought possible anymore.

He thought of Juno often. What was she doing, had she been captured while waiting for a rescue that never came, was she alive... Those were questions that kept him up at night. He’d never felt something like this for anyone, and he still wasn’t sure he could name the feeling. He supposed what everyone else had called “love” was a very good approximation, but... His upbringing hadn’t prepared for this. Any of this. But he’d play the game he’d been thrown into. And if the opportunity ever struck, he’d leave as soon as possible, restrictions and prices be damned. He’d cut his way through before, he could do it again.
