CHARACTER
Name: Galeb Marek
Canon: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Age: Unknown, estimated to be early to mid twenties.
Timeline: When he drops off his ship and infiltrates the Death Star
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: Having been raised by Darth Vader himself as his disciple, Galen spent most of his life being encouraged to give in to every shred of hatred and anger that he could muster. Throughout his life, his only friend was a robot designed to train him in the art of fighting, one that was programmed to kill him, no less. As such, Galen’s personality started out as one of an aggressive, ruthless man, that wouldn't hesitate to strike down anyone and anything that stood in his path. Apathy and distance were to be expected of him when dealing with relations with humans, with things like the fact that most of his pilots were killed either in duty or by Darth Vader, his master, being mentioned with nothing but a curt remark on how sick he is of training new pilots. Kindness and other forms of affection are foreign to him, having never been shown during his upbringing, and thus likely to earn more confusion out of him than anything else. He grew up reclusive, very much believing that anything that didn't kill him would make him stronger, likely to willingly seek out or submit to extreme training regimens that could potentially kill him (supplementary material to the game tells an episode where he spent an extended period of time in isolation, refusing any nourishment until he managed to assemble his lightsaber via telekinesis).

He is also, however, fiercely loyal, although to who is something that torments him in canon. As he’s not irredeemable despite his dark upbringing (I am, in fact, bringing him from a point very soon after he truly begins his redemption), his personality when he enters Ruby City would have been undergoing a slow but dramatic change, largely due to his relationship with his pilot Juno. His love for her was often described in canon as a bright spot in the midst of dark thoughts in his psyche. This ended up opening him up to concepts such as compassion shown in subtle ways through the game. Specifically, how he reaches out for a woman he was sent to kill when she commits suicide and doubting all the collateral he’d done until then was really necessary; as well as in a more overt way, when he mentions a creature’s suffering during a mission in a pained, empathetic tone, and agrees to try and decrease its pain at Juno’s request. He also shows some pity for Darth Vader himself, remarking that Vader hates being himself, and at a certain point in the game telling him that he’d never be free from his own master.

Galen, as mentioned above, has a fierce sense of loyalty, one that ultimately proves incompatible with the life philosophy he was raised in, and as such, at the point in canon he’s being brought in, he has made his choice accordingly. As such, while he’s by no means completely free from the shackles of his dark upbringing, he’s developed a sense of compassion, friendship and even love, that have allowed him to make long strides away from his upbringing. Reigning in his anger and upbringing is still a proving task for him, one that he can still ultimately fail in, but he’s on the way. Something that stays constant through the whole game as far as his personality goes, though, is his sarcasm, with him bring prone to occasional deadpan comments, sometimes to relatively chilling effect, as how he casually accepts that his robot friend will probably try to kill him for the rest of his life.

Background: His background is here.

Abilities: Having been trained in the usage of lightsabers from a tender age, Galen is a skilled swordsman, although one expecting to be able to hack through most things with his lightsaber.

Galen is also trained in the usage of The Force, what can basically be summed up as his universe’s magic system. Galen mostly uses it to attack with lightning shot out of his hands, and as form of telekinesis, allowing him to both pick up objects without physically interacting with them (people and spaceships included) and to send them flying or to slam them against things. He can also use it to propel himself forward.

Other than that, Galen is a very athletic man, and is shown performing some acrobatics, although how much of it is natural skill and how much of it is aided by the force is unclear.

First Person: Dear Player post

Third Person: How little he knew of a lot of things in this world would always be frustrating. Galen wasn't a stranger to humiliation; anyone raised and taught by Darth Vader would suffer some should any exaggerated ideas of one’s own greatness pop up. But this was too much. This world was too much. The fact that technology was so behind compared to his world that he had to adjust to sometimes embarrassing levels, the fact that he had no idea what just about everything eaten was… It was like he was a child again.

But he had made himself block it all out and managed his anger at his situation. Whatever was going on either where he was or in his home world (as weird as it was to think of an entire galaxy as a single world), too much was riding on him for him to allow himself to fall back on his old anger. If he was to be a Jedi and fight against the Dark Side, he’d have to remain as one.

But he was still restless. Even if he could be back at the exact same moment he had been taken from, he couldn't shake the feeling that he shouldn't be there, and that every moment there was one more closer to everything he’d started falling apart. But there was nothing he could do. No path he could through, no single enemy he knew of he could defeat and make put things right. So once again, he reigned himself him, summoned every ounce of faith he could, and played along with life in Ruby City as well as he could. For now, as much he wished otherwise, it was the best he could do.
